This is what i need to point around my wooden window frames and keep water out. This is far superior to modern mastics/silicone sealants in tubes, wish i had used this when i installed the new windows, the silicone frame sealant i used has shrunk and rolled back, letting water in and ruining my beautiful plaster. This time I will do it better
Hello world, todays job is a follow on from yesterday (which was a disaster). I desperately need to point around my hardwood sash style window frames, as the silicone i used to seal them when i installed them has peeled back from the stone window reveals, which in turn has let water in all over the place, and as i made the fatal error of dot and dab plasterboard under the window downstairs, it was only when the plaster board became mouldy and sodden that i picked up on it.
I have spent all yesterday afternoon driving round b & Q ‘s and wickes looking for the unicorn otherwise known as pointing trowel mastic 😉
the problem with large diy super stores is theres plenty of people to ask for help in store, but they dont do diy generally, unless you strike gold and come across someone in the know, then you may as well be asking the man in the lol,
So today i have learnt my lesson, im biting the bullet and going to the small family firm hardware store that i should have tried in the first place, I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD PINE FOR MASTIC AND BOILED OIL SO BAD 🙂
THE OUTER WALL HAS BEEN PLASTER BOARDED AND SKIMMED, THE WINDOW REVEAL HAS BEEN LEFT AS THERE WILL BE A NEW SASH WINDOW FITTED AS SOON AS FUNDS ALLOW. THE ATTIC ABOVE THIS ROOM HAS BEEN INSULATED, EVEN WITH THE OLD WINDOW IN I HAVE ACHEIVED A CONSTANT TEMPERATURE OF 12 DEGREES, I AM LOOKING FOWARDXS TO SEEING WHAT TEMPERATURE I CAN ACHEIVE WITH FURTHER INSULATION, THIS ROOM IS UNHEATED AND THE TEMPERATURES WERE RECORDED EARLY JAN/FEB IN THE HEIGHT OF THE COLD SNAP !
